"The house is an edifice," Ella says. "Jon's gonna need help getting around. So if you could help him on the stairs, carry his stuff, generally be his gopher..."

Cathy perks up. "Gaufres? J'aime les gaufres!"

Ella assures them, "I promise there'll be plenty of time to relax with an egg nog and enjoy the festivities."

"Hey, one more thing," Jon interjects from under the blanket. "Don't tell them I broke up with Heather, or else they'll bug me about it."

"Yeah, and ask awkward questions about how you date girls," adds Ella. (How does Jon date girls? Honestly that has a nuanced answer.)

"We got your back, Jon," says Maurice. He finally gets to enjoy the clout he's earned by being Jon's reliable friend, and no longer has to endure the servant-like role of being Jon's hired caregiver! He's helping out for friendship, not for a paycheck. He gazes lovingly at Cathy and adds, "I'm really glad I don't have to date girls anymore. No offense."

"Nobody has to date, y'know," Ella says. I know the word balloons are a little tangly here, so that's a good reason to type out the transcript.

Lying on the couch just out of sight, Jon says, "They're gonna bug you about that too, Els."

"I'll date girls!" Ella insists.

Cathy is expecting waffles. That's what gaufres are. Belgian waffles. To be fair, they seem festive enough for a major holiday.

June is Pride Month, but I don't plan to do anything this year except let my LGBTQIA+ characters be themselves as openly as they dare! Which isn't much. The HIV/AIDS crisis is still on everyone's minds in 1990, and some of them have sexual and gender identities that haven't been invented yet.

I have a few more daily comics to post, so even though I feel like a moldy compost heap, it shouldn't be too hard to keep posting them. And if I can't get myself to keep pace drawing new ones, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
