Health and snow

Sick today. Managed to finish grocery shopping before I got too exhausted. Now I'm hungry for some of the food I bought, but I don't have much appetite.

Another 10 inches of snow is coming tonight. I'm watching the flurries while I draw in bed. They look lovely. I feel bad that some of the acorns I'd saved for the squirrels got moldy. I had 3 batches and 2 were fine. I should have kept them in a paper bag. Live and learn!

The hawthorn tree has been picked clean. I think we need a couple more of those! Well, it keeps putting up runners so I guess it'll be easy to end up with more hawthorns.

I'm on a scene where Maurice is making pizza while wearing his biker jacket. Because he may be a domestic goddess, but he's still a guy.

Acorns mold very easily. They're one type of nut that really isn't designed for storage.

Good idea. Hawthorns can be propagated in various ways.

Runners are a very easy method. You are right before the time for this. Wait for your hawthorn to leaf out in spring. Then carefully dig around each runner's upward shoot to make sure it has a good little rootball of its own. If it does, look for the runner root that connects it to the parent plant. Cut that. Then just lift out the shoot with its rootball and replant it.

That's a lot of info! I looked at it, but I'll deal with it more later. The acorns thing was really my mother's project. I just came up with the idea of keeping them to put out for the squirrels as a way to manage the mess. And we did succeed in putting out some of them. There's no way I'm storing them in my fridge, though, or cracking them open to look for weevils. The squirrels can do that. Surely they know what to do with weevils.

In that context, I suggest storing them in mesh bags, like the kind oranges come in. The increased air flow should slow the tendency to mold.

Haha! I'm sure he's getting flour on himself, but nobody's commenting on it because I don't have the space for that much dialogue. I only drew it that way for continuity - it's supposed to be the same day as the previous scene where he's wearing the jacket, and I'm sure some readers will think, "Oh, he took it off to cook! That's sensible!" But I already had a scene with an unexplained wardrobe change in the middle of the day, and that's not an easy fix, so I'm hesitant to do it again so soon.
