Back to paper and pencil for a day, while I wait for my Wacom to recover. It did actually recover, but I was almost done with this when it finally finished drying out, so I finished. I want to stay a little more consistent, so I'll try to do it digital as often as I could.

Ella and Jon work at different locations of Giant Supermarket, and Jon doesn't drive yet, so Ella could use a little help! "Maurice, does Cathy have a license? Giant scheduled Jon an hour before before me!"

"I'll ask her," Maurice says, and to Cathy, "As-tu une licence pour faire une voiture?" To drive is 'conduire' but I had to look that one up so Maurice probably doesn't know it either. So he asks her if she can do a car. Good enough, in a relationship built on 'good enough'.

Cathy digs around in her oversized bag and cheerfully presents her license. Ella is thrilled. "Cathy, you're our chauffeur from now on."

"We need to check if that's legal," says Maurice.

I like the "can you do a car" phrase, it sounds like a very human attempt at another language.

I wanted so badly for Chinese to have a fallback verb like 'to do'! It does have 'dao' but that's pretty limited. English and French have that nice advantage!

When you draw on a Wacom do you actually see it on your computer screen? I've never seen one in action.

There are two kinds - some have the screen directly on the tablet, so it's like a digital version of drawing on paper. I have the older model, where the tablet is just gray with nothing on it, and the image appears on my laptop screen. I can also make it appear on my TV, with the right cable configuration.

The newer model, conveniently, bridges the confusion between 'tablet' the gray slab and 'tablet' the iPad-type device. That converging of the two 'tablets' doesn't help me any, but at least it's there.

I've no idea how it works in USA but in UK you can drive on an international licence for a while (a year, maybe?) then you need a UK one. All you need to get an international licence is your normal driving licence and your passport. It works like that throughout Europe so far as I know. It's not cumulative - if you leave then come back the year starts again.
