Alien Romance, the daily comic strip

It was getting labor-intensive, so I had to rush it and post it. Lots to do today, and I have to work on my book a little bit too.
If I don't know where the plot is going, sometimes I throw in a dance scene. I guess I really want this story to be a musical.

*laugh* Have you seen musical fanfic? I've seen some that are musical episodes, and one that's in the universe where everything is musical.
Re: Thoughts
Date: 2025-11-06 02:55 am (UTC)I also get some cynical reactions. When I tell other comic creators that I think dance scenes should be as fundamental to the medium as fight scenes, they look at me like they want me to shut up and go away.
(Spoiler: I did not shut up and go away.)

It's okay to draw fight scenes if that's what they enjoy. However, it puts them in a very crowded field. The more is written / drawn about a given motif, the harder it becomes to create something new and interesting.
Conversely, if you create things where there is little or nothing else, that minimizes competition and ensures that people who want that topic will stick with you if they realize you're doing it. I do this a lot. It's also why Isaac Asimov wrote the Three Laws of Robotics: he was bored with everyone else's evil robots.

*high five*
Re: Thoughts
Date: 2025-11-06 03:26 am (UTC)I still think it's one of the funniest and most impactful scenes I've ever drawn! Not sure I'd do it again, though.
Jon really wants to be in a fight scene someday, so I may make an exception if I can create a scenario for him.

I have started the story idea I wanted to do with Fritz, at least two of the other members of his band (Razz and Tom), and my own character. I only just started, and it'll be a while until I write out in my mind as to how Fritz did the blooper "YAY!!" in the unpublished first take of my Linda Kelly song happened.

Date: 2025-11-06 12:24 pm (UTC)So the band is called Screamo-Emo and it does screamo, emo, and electronica (and whatever else people are calling subgenres... the names and categories seem ephemeral sometimes) (I'd never heard of screamo as a subgenre but it's pretty self-descriptive)...
I've joined a mostly-fanfic community here on DW and they're fans of a lot of properties that I've never heard of, and canon vs OC vs AU is suddenly a tangle of concepts I'm unequipped to sort out, and that's fine with me. I told them that I'll respond to everything they write at face value without caring about who owns what element or where it all comes from.
So that's where my head is at. Same promise goes to you: I'll enjoy your work on its own merit. I'm just curious if any part of it is fanfic. I didn't think it was, but then again I'm used to not knowing much about pop culture!

Linda Kelly isn't on there, because I had to edit and replace some sections to improve it. I have no idea why that is, but oh well. It was MUCH more important for Fritz, his bandmates, and I put our all into making such a fantastic song!! Which can be heard here: https://suno.com/s/wvlJwlYJO3redHdp
Everything about Fritz himself isn't fandom related. It's more of an original character, based on what I've been picking up about him all week long.
