Alien Romance, the daily comic strip
Apr. 5th, 2026 11:09 amI'm excited to be getting back to digital art on my webcomic! I do love the pencil better, but my pencil scribbles are not supposed to be the finished comics. I was only posting them that way because of my laptop struggles - which aren't resolved, but I'm doing them digital again anyway. They're still scribbles. I can barely look at the screen so I'm not up for doing any detail work.

Ren in his old Ford F-150 pulls into the driveway of Ms. Upton's property. The barn with stables extension is to their left, and the farmhouse and parking lot, with one other truck, is to the right.
As they get out, Ren assesses the scene before them. Maurice faces an exuberant dog bounding toward him and raises his arm in defense. Maurice's secret is that he's a little afraid of exuberant dogs. Ren bounds up to the dog; if I'd taken the time to draw more panels, you would've seen that Ren purposely puts himself between Maurice and the dog. Ren knows Maurice's dog issue; in fact, he's the one who caused it. Little kid Ren really loved his family dogs - all of them - and wanted his best buddy to love them too. And so the opposite happened. What do you do then? Hopefully, take responsibility for your mistakes and try to find a balance between the two incompatible loves in your life. Ren would also protect Maurice from overly aggressive dog lovers, too, but I haven't had any storylines about that.
That was a tangent! Back to the comic.
"You're a handsome guy," Ren fawns as the dog bounces all over him.
"There's only four horses in the paddock," Maurice observes. He heads toward the stables. "I'll check for more inside."
A woman comes out of the farmhouse and strides toward Ren. "Are you the volunteers? I'm Angie's niece. I contacted three of the families to board their horses elsewhere, but I can't reach the owner of the last two. He's wintering in Monaco, I think."
"We found a place," Ren says, standing up. He's quite a lot taller than her. "Are they fed and groomed yet?"
"I can't get them in the barn!" Ms. Upton's niece frets. "And it gets so cold at night."

That's it for me. I'm going back to bed.
